Responding to the news that performance against the A&E waiting time target has fallen to its lowest level for 2 years, with only 81.2% of patients treated within 4 hours, 952 patients waiting over 8 hours and 336 patients waiting over 12 hours, Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP commented:

"We are now seeing a two year low in A&E performance. Doctors and nurses are fully stretched. They can't go on like this.

"On this SNP Government's watch this target has not been met for years.

"To give patients and their families a brighter future, the strain on A&E departments needs to stop. Liberal Democrats' commitment to stopping Brexit will ensure Scotland retains staff from across the EU and invests the Remain bonus in our public services. We will also ensure that the integrated workforce plan which is already a year late is delivered and put new mental health workers in every A&E 24/7."
