Responding to Alister Jack's speech to the Conservative conference in which he branded the threat of medicine shortages "a ridiculous scare story", threatened to replace one of the "left wing bank holidays" with Union Day and suggested deploying the Royal Navy against European fishing vessels, Liberal Democrat Scottish affairs spokesperson Jamie Stone MP said:

"Alister Jack's speech was big on chest-beating but low on sense.

"Constituents who need insulin from the EU will be horrified that he has marched the Scottish Conservatives rightwards and away from the centre ground.

"Mr Jack is prepared to put their lives at risk rather than speak out against a disastrous no deal Brexit. We don't need jingoistic sabre rattling, we need an exit from Brexit with the Liberal Democrats."
