Commenting on new analysis of the SNP's Growth Commission report from Scottish Trends which suggests that to meet the needs of the NHS an independent Scotland would have to slash other public services, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie said:

"This new analysis confirms that an independent Scotland would have no choice but to impose austerity on public services.

"Even Nicola Sturgeon's own commission of friendly experts can see no other way forward.

"To protect the NHS, an independent Scotland would have to take a machete to every other service.

"Instead I want to see a liberal, fair and open society that shares its fruits across the whole of the UK."
