Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie today said that the severe concerns about the impact of Brexit among Scottish manufacturers highlight how important it is that the public are offered an "exit from Brexit".

Almost a quarter of Scottish manufacturers responding to a new survey have lost or are at risk of losing staff due to Brexit. The survey found this was due to uncertainty over post-Brexit EU workers' rights and a drop in the value of the pound. Nearly a quarter (22%) of respondents cited Brexit concerns and uncertainty over future trading tariffs as a key barrier to growth.

Mr Rennie said:

"Brexit is already hurting the wider economy through higher inflation and a collapse in the value of the pound. This survey shows that it is hurting our manufacturing firms too.

"Theresa May will never get a deal for the UK as good as its present one. People last year did not vote to make themselves poorer or undermine our position as a major exporter to other European nations.

"That's why it is essential that we give the people an exit from Brexit by giving them the final say on the deal that Theresa May negotiates with Brussels."
