Jo Swinson MP has pressed East Dunbartonshire Council on their response to the early snowfall this winter.
In a letter this week, Jo asked the Council about the adequacy of salt stocks to grit roads throughout the recent snowfall, what provisions they are making for the rest of the winter, and how local people can be better informed about gritting.
Many constituents have written to Jo about the treacherous conditions they have been facing over the last few days, as ungritted and icy roads have prevented them from leaving their houses and using cars. Jo Swinson has called on the Council to ensure that they are prepared for the winter weather conditions, and that people have sufficient access to grit bins and information about the gritting expected in their area.
Commenting, Jo Swinson said:
"Lessons must been learned from last year's icy weather and the Council's poor response over the Christmas period. With this year's much earlier cold snap, it is vital that the Council has a comprehensive plan to ensure roads and pavements remain useable and keep people informed about what they are doing throughout the winter."
