"The industry was keen to open a constructive dialogue with the Secretary of State for Scotland and so in this respect, the meeting was extremely useful. It provided an opportunity to detail the precarious position of much of the Scottish.
"The compelling case was made for a period of stability allowing Government, Industry and scientists to take stock of what measures are working and those that are not.
"The simple fact is that if that stability is not forthcoming and further cuts in effort and quotas are added to the current difficulties facing the Scottish fleet, the consequences will be disastrous.
"In terms of the dispute over mackerel, we made the case for continued pressure to be applied Iceland and particularly the Faroe Islands. Their actions on unilateral quotas are unjustifiable and dangerous, and action is urgently needed to force a re-think."
