Commenting ahead of the final stages of the Scottish Budget, Liberal Democrat Finance spokesperson Jeremy Purvis said:
"We have held a series of constructive meetings with the Scottish Government and these will continue.
"We have made the clear case that the £650 million pay bill for the top 1 per cent of the highest paid employees in the public sector is not sustainable. It was Liberal Democrat research that highlighted the scale of the paybill.
"This week, we also published research showing that Scotland's colleges have no available places and are closing their doors to young people seeking training and skills. We must act to stop a new lost generation of young people. That is why we are campaigning for the Budget to include funding for more college places. We were encouraged that the First Minister responded positively to this challenge from Tavish Scott.
"In the days leading up to the final vote, we will continue to engage with the Government about delivering more of our practical measures, such as specific support to keep Post Offices open and provide much needed debt lending from Government for businesses. "
