The government cannot afford any further delays to the construction of the two super aircraft carriers according to Dunfermline and West Fife MP, who has accused the government of wasting £1billion without creating one extra job or any additional capability on the carriers.
Speaking yesterday in the House of Commons, Mr Rennie called on Defence Minister Quentin Davies MP to guarantee that more money would not be wasted by further delays to in-service date for the carriers.Willie Rennie MP: Dunfermline & West Fife
Mr Rennie received assurances from Mr Davies that there wouldn't be any additional delays to the construction of the two super aircraft carriers after the Minister confirmed that he could see "no reason" why there would be any further setbacks to the delivery date for the carriers.
Commenting Mr Rennie said;
"This government has spent an additional £1 billion on the aircraft carriers without creating one extra job or any additional capability on those carriers.
"Further delays to the in-service date of the carriers will mean the cost of carriers will increase yet again. This may save the Government pennies now but the taxpayer will have to pick up the tab later.
"I'm happy that the Minister finally understands the answer is not endless delays after endless delays. This government cannot afford to let down the workforce yet again and must build these carriers without anymore delay."
